Alivira SEDAPET (acepromazine) is a sedative and tranquilizer used in dogs, cats, and horses. Prescribed for chemical restraint, pre-anesthetic sedation, reducing motion sickness, and controlling localized itching.

INDICATIONS

Dogs and Cats:
  • Chemical Restraint: Helps control fractious or anxious animals during physical examinations, blood draws, X-rays, and grooming.
  • Pre-Anesthetic: Used prior to general anesthesia to enhance and prolong the effects of induction agents, reducing the required dose.
  • Motion Sickness: Acts as a powerful antiemetic to prevent and control vomiting caused by travel or motion sickness.
  • Dermatitis: Can be used to temporarily alleviate itching and scratching caused by skin irritations.
Horses:
  • Handling & Transport: Aids in controlling uncooperative or nervous animals during loading, transportation, and veterinary treatments.
  • Minor Procedures: Assists with chemical restraint when performing minor surgeries or procedures (such as removing skin tumors, applying casts, or ocular surgery) in conjunction with local anesthesia.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Set the Dosage: Look at the graduation marks on the plunger of the Alivira SEDAPET syringe. Turn the ring or mechanism to lock in the exact dose prescribed by your veterinarian based on your animal’s weight.
  • Position the Syringe: Insert the tip of the oral syringe into the corner of the animal’s mouth, sliding it into the cheek pouch or over the back of the tongue.
  • Depress the Plunger: Slowly push the plunger down to release the paste. Do not rush it, allowing the animal time to swallow.
  • Ensure Swallowing: Hold the animal’s mouth closed gently for a brief moment and tilt the chin up slightly to prevent them from spitting the paste out.
  • Alternative Option: If your pet refuses direct administration, the dose can sometimes be mixed into a very small amount of appetizing food or a treat, provided they eat the entire portion immediately.
