Alivira RUMITRAZ (amitraz) is a potent veterinary ectoparasiticide indicated for the treatment and management of ticks, mange mites, lice, and keds.
INDICATIONS
- Mange Management: Effectively treats infestations caused by mites, specifically demodectic mange (Demodex canis) and sarcoptic mange (scabies).
- Tick Control: Eliminates and repels established populations of ticks (such as the Brown dog tick and American dog tick) and provides ongoing protection.
- Lice and Keds Elimination: Eradicates biting and sucking lice infestations as well as sheep keds (Melophagus ovinus).
Target Species
This product is clinically approved for use under veterinary guidance in:
- Cattle
- Sheep & Goats
- Camels & Pigs
- Dogs (excluding specific breeds)
Important Safety Contraindications
While Rumitraz is widely considered safe for pregnant and lactating livestock when applied according to the exact dilution instructions, it carries strict contraindications:
- Strictly Contraindicated Species: Do NOT use on horses (causes fatal colon impaction/ileus) or cats.
ADMINISTRATION
For external administration as a dip, wash, or spray. It must never be administered orally, systemically, or via injection, as ingestion is highly toxic to animals.
- Dilution is Required: The concentrate must be diluted in water according to the manufacturer’s or veterinarian’s exact specifications. Typical ratios range from 1 ml of concentrate per 1 to 2.5 liters of water, depending on the animal species and the severity of the infestation.
- Pre-Bath & Dry: Trim any matted or long hair from the animal, give them a standard bath using a mild soap, and towel dry.
- Thorough Saturation: Apply the diluted solution by sponge or spray to the entire animal, ensuring the belly, underlegs, and inside the ears are thoroughly wet.
- Air Dry: Do not towel dry or rinse off the solution after application; let the animal air dry naturally.
- Prevent Ingestion: Prevent the animal from licking its coat while wet, as systemic absorption through the mouth can cause poisoning.
- Highly toxic to horses and should never be used on them.
