Alivira Pentamycin-LA (Long-Acting) is a broad-spectrum, long-acting oxytetracycline injectable antibiotic. It is indicated to treat systemic and local bacterial infections in cattle, swine, and sheep.
INDICATIONS
- Respiratory Infections: Bacterial pneumonia, pasteurellosis, and bovine respiratory disease (BRD) complex.
- Gastrointestinal Issues: Bacterial enteritis (scours) and colibacillosis caused by Escherichia coli.
- Ocular Diseases: Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (pink eye) caused by Moraxella bovis.
- Reproductive & Mammary Infections: Supporting the treatment of mastitis, metritis, and agalactia.
- Musculoskeletal Conditions: Foot rot (Fusobacterium necrophorum) and joint ill / navel ill.
- Systemic & Tick-Borne Diseases: Anaplasmosis, heartwater, listeriosis, leptospirosis, and secondary bacterial infections complicating viral diseases.
- Other Conditions: Wooden tongue (Actinobacillus lignieresii), diphtheria, and localized wound infections.
ADMINISTRATION
Alivira PENTAMYCIN-LA (Oxytetracycline Injection) is administered via deep intramuscular (IM) injection, typically into the neck muscle of cattle, sheep, and goats.
- Injection Location: It is recommended to inject into the neck region to minimize damage to high-value meat cuts.
- Site Volume Limits: To minimize tissue irritation, it is generally recommended to limit the volume injected per site, often splitting the total dose into multiple sites if necessary.
- Temperature: Warming the solution to body temperature prior to injection can help reduce tissue irritation.
Withdrawal Periods
Strict withholding periods must be observed before animal products can enter the food chain, as detailed in product labeling:
- Meat: 28 days for cattle, sheep, and goats.
- Cattle Milk: 10 days (20 milkings).
- Sheep & Goat Milk: 7 days (14 milkings).
