Alivira BUPALET (buparvaquone) is indicated for the treatment and prevention of tick-transmitted bovine theileriosis in cattle.
INDICATIONS
- Active Clinical Treatment: It is indicated for cattle displaying acute clinical signs of theileriosis (such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, anemia, and weakness). It effectively kills the parasite during both its schizont and piroplasm life cycles.
- Metaphylactic Treatment: It is used during the incubation period of the disease in animals that have been exposed to tick vectors but are not yet showing severe clinical symptoms.
- Prophylactic Prevention: It provides preventive therapy and prophylaxis for highly susceptible animals or healthy contact animals during active disease outbreaks.
Target Parasites and forms of Theileriosis
- Theileria parva: Causes East Coast Fever, Corridor Disease, and Zimbabwean Theileriosis (January Disease).
- Theileria annulata: Causes Tropical/Mediterranean Theileriosis.
- Theileria orientalis and Theileria mutans: Cause milder or localized forms of bovine theileriosis.
ADMINISTRATION
- General Dose: 1 ml per 20 kg of body weight (equivalent to 2.5 mg of buparvaquone per kg).
- Site Limit: Do not inject more than 10 ml into a single site. If the total dose exceeds 10 ml, divide the volume and administer it at multiple, separate locations.
- Frequency: A single dose is usually sufficient, but in severe cases, the dose can be repeated after 48 to 72 hours.
Critical Safety Precautions
- NEVER administer this injection intravenously (IV) or subcutaneously (SC).
- Ensure the skin is clean and dry before administering to prevent infections at the injection site.
- Milk and Meat Withdrawal Times: Do not consume milk for 48 hours following the final treatment, and do not slaughter the animal for meat within 42 days.
