Alivira ATRACSION (amoxicillin & colistin) is a combination antibiotic used to treat wide-spectrum bacterial infections in cattle, sheep, and dogs.
INDICATIONS
- Digestive System Infections: Gastrointestinal bacterial diseases, including severe enteritis and bacterial diarrhea.
- Respiratory System Infections: Bovine and ovine respiratory disease complexes, pneumonia, and upper respiratory tract infections.
- Genital Tract Infections: Bacterial infections affecting the reproductive organs (e.g., metritis).
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Wounds, abscesses, and deep tissue bacterial contaminations.
- Post-Operative Infections: Prophylactic or active treatment to prevent secondary bacterial infections following surgical procedures.
ADMINISTRATION
ATRACSION is administered intramuscularly in cattle and sheep, and intramuscularly or subcutaneously in dogs.
- Syringe Requirements: Use a dry syringe for administration. Moisture or water in the syringe can cause the amoxicillin to break down (hydrolyze) before it is delivered, reducing the medication’s effectiveness.
- Intramuscular (IM) Injections: Inject deep into a major muscle mass. Before injecting, pull back on the syringe plunger slightly to ensure you are not in a blood vessel.
- Subcutaneous (SQ) Injections: Pinch loose skin (the scruff of the neck) to form a “tent,” insert the needle at a 30-45 degree angle, and gently massage the area afterward.
- Withdrawal Periods: Because this is an antibiotic, meat and milk from treated animals must not be consumed for a specific period after the last dose.
